I’m still recovering from Blogopolis fever. My poor tired brain is overwhemed with new ideas and as a result has ceased to function. There is so much to process! So much to action! The day was a blur of information overload, ‘celebrity spotting’ and massive tea consumption.
Here are my highlights:
· Meeting some of the bloggers that I regularly
engage with, ladies with whom I have exchanged comments and shared ideas. I ‘liked’
them on Facebook and now I can say that I like them in real life too.
· Chatting (or rather rambling innate dribble) to
my blogging heroes Mrs Woog and Eden Riley. It was a very surreal experience.
Having followed their blogs I felt like I knew them so well, but to them I was
just a rambling-star-struck newbie-blogger struggling to maintain a coherent
conversation. There are so many things I could have talked about, questions I
could have asked, photos I could have taken… but instead, I chose to waffle
about how I don’t get out by myself very much and how strange it was to spend
the day with adults. Nice one Catherine.
· The live twitter feed at the front of the room
was a bit distracting. I tried to listen to the speaker, take notes and tweet
along. I couldn’t. I thought that I was good at multitasking, but it turns out
that whilst being able to juggle the different needs of a baby and toddler is a
skill, it is not remotely useful at a conference. I gave up. I concentrated on
listening and taking notes and tried my best to block out the rest. Although,
when I popped to the loo (five cups of tea will inevitably lead to frequent
bathroom visits) I was enormously grateful for Twitter… I didn’t miss a thing.
So, in summary, I drank a lot of tea. I used twitter in the
loo. I made a tit of myself. All in all, it was a very good day.

For anyone visiting this post looking for information
gleaned from the various sessions (sorry to disappoint) you may find the
following useful:
Oh, I so wish we had got to meet Catherine! I only stared at Eden and Mrs Woog from afar, so you're one step ahead of me! And I had the same exact thought about multi-tasking - I thought I was reasonably good at it but it kind of went out the window a bit as I was so distracted by the excitement of being there! That Twitter stream was a huge distraction - had to look away sometimes lol. P.S Thanks for adding my link xx
ReplyDelete5 cups of tea!!?!!! No wonder you were tweeting in the loo!
ReplyDeleteLovely to have finally met you! You're just as lovely in the real life ;)
Thanks for the link up too ! x
Sounds awesome. I went last year and I yes I too spent almost the entire day reading the live feed.
ReplyDeleteThe best bit about the twitter feed was that my husband was following at home so when I was telling him about he kept saying "oh yeah! I read that!"
DeleteAwesome to meet you!!!
ReplyDeleteBetween the tea, coffee and sparkling water, I made many trips to the loo too. What a great day it was! Rachel xx
ReplyDeleteWhere was this?? They wouldn't serve THIS much tea in the states for sure!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun!
In Sydney! it was sponsored by Twinnings :-)
DeleteCrappy crap. I lost my last comment. My laptop died halfway though publishing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a good time. I was very similar to you on my first DP blog conference. Nervous, waffling, overwhelmed. I'd do it again though. It was great for bloggy-good inspiration.
Glad you had a good time Catherine! I can imagine I would be completely overwhelmed too, but no doubt you were quite coherent! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping my link in here Catherine! And I just loved that Twinings heard you were coming on the day and laid it all on for you ;)
ReplyDeleteI know! tea hee :-)
DeleteReading your blog makes me wish I had gone. So funny!
ReplyDeleteYou did much better than me! I was sitting on the same table as aforementioned celebrity bloggers and I couldn't manage much more than a stare. When Mrs Woog introduced herself I actually told her I was star struck and didn't say another thing. When Eden said hello, I squeaked a quick reply and looked away!
ReplyDeleteLoved meeting you. It was such a great day. Mouth still sore from smiling. Give me a room of bloggers and I am in heaven xx
ReplyDeleteIt was great meeting you Mrs Woog. I was really sorry that I had to leave before the end of your session x
DeleteThink I'm gonna have to make sure I'm there next year!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy. Thanks for dropping by and reading my take on Blogopolis. I totally concur with the need for more than normal loo breaks with the tea but, oh, wasn't it lovely high tea?! And that Twitter feed - I realised I was no good at multitasking either. There is just no way to do that and pay due diligence to the speaker whilst taking notes oneself, or maybe there is and I've just not figured it out! You know where my post is but I'll pop the link in anyway - "Blogging Lessons from Blogopolis" at http://mixedgems.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/blogging-lessons-from-blogopolis/.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of the loo tweet. That is excellent use of multitasking.
ReplyDeleteVery fitting you drank that much tea - you would have let you blog title down if you didn't! Here's my contribution: http://www.twinkleintheeyeblog.com/2012/07/nuffnang-blush.html
ReplyDeleteWe love toilet twitter!! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fabulous time! I am your newest follower from the flash blog Friday hop! Have a great weekend! =)
ReplyDeleteI am ever so envious as I wasnt able to go, but it sounds like you all had a fab time and I love that you were tweeting from the loo :) xx
