My little love C likes to hold my hand. How lovely I hear you say! And yes, sometimes it is rather lovely. As her warm chubby fingers wrap around my hand I feel her vulnerability and her need to have me close. I know that there will come a time that she rejects the hand I offer, and on that day I will be very sad…
The thing is… she wants to hold my hand… all the time. Really.. ALL the time.
She wants to hold my hand while we’re having breakfast, I sit next to her and try not to get frustrated as we both attempt to eat our cereal one handed.
She likes to hold my hand when we’re in the car. It’s fine when my husband is driving, if a little uncomfortable, but despite my double-jointed elbows it’s nigh on impossible (and probably a bit dangerous) when I’m driving. She cries for my hand. I see her little face in the rear view mirror and feel bad that I can’t give her what she wants. She doesn’t understand that I need my hands for driving.
She likes to hold my hand when I’m on the loo… I appreciate the sentiment, but I’m a big girl, I can do without the support. She likes to hold my hand when she's on the loo…probably a good idea, stops her falling down it…
She likes to hold my hand while she falls asleep. I sit by her side with my arm wedged through the bars of her cot. I have to be very careful, if I try and move before she falls asleep she howls as if I taken her favourite toy (which in a way, I suppose I have).
I try not to get frustrated. It’s just a phase. But I wish I had a spare hand. It would be ever so… er… well… handy…

It's so sweet, but I understand your frustration. I hope you can, ahem, handle, it a little longer!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I wish I'd thought of that one!x
DeleteI hear ya. I have one who always wants to wrap himself around my upper arm. Strange but true. Sweet, but it will be a relief when it passes.
ReplyDeleteIt's like catch 22 isn't it? it's lovely but frustrating at the same time.
Deleteyour mantra - this too shall pass...

Thanks Vicky xx
DeleteAwwww. How cute, but incredibly frustrating at the same time!
ReplyDeleteMy youngest used to want to sit on my knee all the time. He would howl in the car too, because he wanted to be on my knee, not strapped into his car seat. He didn't understand either. But that phase has gone now he's 5. It will pass Cath :)
xx
I know I'll miss it one day, but sometimes I need both my hands!
DeleteOh I loved this post. And I can totally relate too. My 3 year old daughter wants to touch me, cuddle me wrap herself around me ALL THE TIME. If five minutes should pass between cuddles she will notice and leap into my arms (ready or not mama) and throw herself at me. The affection is lovely but impossible to reciprocate, as i juggle my 2 year old and 11 month old daughters too :-)
ReplyDeleteGosh that must be tricky to juggle! x
DeleteI really enjoyed this post - super cute - super frustrating.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jacana! Yup - that sums it up!
DeleteThe line between gorgeous and frustrating can sometimes be blurred with children. Strange to think you will one day miss this.

That's it exactly Iliska x
DeleteI can understand why this would become frustrating. My son loves to touch my ears at every opportunity. It's getting better but it's still frustrating.
